Why I'm Excited for Hyper Light Drifter

Oh look, pixelated graphics. Why should you care? I don't know, but I do know why I care about it.

From the footage I've seen so far, the game mechanics in Hyper Light Drifter reminds me of Bastion (which I loved), and a plentiful array of colourful graphics that reminds me of FEZ (another game I love). The thing about the art though... some parts of it seem eerily reminiscent of the Twilit Realm in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (which I absolutely love and has a special place in my heart forever), which did nothing but increase my interest in this upcoming title.

What? Oh, sorry. I think I started too fast. Let's read about what Heart-Machine has to say about their game: "Explore a beautiful, vast and ruined world riddled with unknown dangers and lost technologies. Inspired by nightmares and dreams alike. Hyper Light Drifter is a 2D Action RPG in the vein of the best 8-bit and 16-bit classics, with modernized mechanics and designs on a much grander scale."

If that doesn't pique your interest, you might as well stop reading now and go do something else. I'm not here to stop you.

Anyways, my only regret so far is that I didn't find out about this game earlier. Heart-Machine's Kickstarter campaign succeeded and ultimately closed back in Oct 2013, so the only way I could really contribute or gain Beta access was to purchase the $40 Gold package through Humble Bundle's store.

If you want to get in on the action, I've included the Humble Widget for the Ultimate Bundle package like the one I purchased (or click here for all of the available packages).

And credit to Logan from Tek Syndicate for mentioning this game in one of the recent episodes of The Tek; without that mention, I wouldn't have found this very promising game.

Good luck to Alex Preston, Teddy Diefenbach, and the rest of the Heart-Machine crew, and I hope HLD does well!

I sense that the level of adventure in this game will be legendary....
